The Preparation

Introduction

Life can tick along happily according to plan with nothing of consequence to report. It seems that really the only events which you survive are those with stories worth repeating. This is our aim: to survive the events while exploring the eastern and, hopefully, northern parts of our huge continent of Africa. Our email address will be karginafrica@gmail.com and our blog address http://www.4x4africa1.blogspot.com/ during our 10 month plus trip starting early March 2007 from our dairy farm near Rosetta, South Africa.

070210 Four weeks to go and I am getting waves of apprehension! Can’t sleep and my whole life seems to be geared to the trip. Like being pregnant, can’t think of much else without coming back to the trip. Apart from the family I’m really going to miss my Australian Cattle dog Buddy, and my (Parelli trained to level 2) pony Sunshine. There is lots still to do, but I have packed and unpacked and packed again so many times in order to find a place for everything and not forget anything.

Our travelmates have all either sold their businesses or resigned from their jobs. The team consist of: Dave and Beryl Kotze, Willy and Ingrid Hardman, and Brian and Maureen Day. Dave - IT man, Beryl – pharmacist, Willy – mechanic, Ingrid – bookkeeper, Brian – auto electrician, Maureen – nurse, Nev – farmer and me. One petrol Landcruiser and three diesel Landrovers.
